The Elmwood Volunteer Fire Department protects an area of East Texas, south of Frankston and north of Palestine, about 20-miles long and five to six miles wide. In all, its a bit more than 100-miles around our perimeter. Inside our district are about 2,000 residences, dozens of producing oil & gas rigs, some huge cattle and agriculture operations, and some of the finest humans you'll find on earth. Oh, and the deer here grow like weeds, too. Unfortunately, due to human error, acts of nature, and accidents, we occasionally have to stand together against this:
To be sure, when conditions warrant, we can call in mutual aid from surrounding departments, but most incidents in the district are handled by active members of the community who have taken it upon themselves to become involved with the community.
We're more than a little proud of our Department. Not only do volunteers train on basic fire fighting, but some go into additional specialties.
Sound like a good bunch of folks? They are! I(f you live in our district (or even nearby) and would like to volunteer, there's always something to do. Maybe you don't have the physical conditioning to throw on the breathing gear and walk into a burning home, but maybe you could help with our regionally famous fund raising BBQ...always something to do at the fire house. So join in! Click here to continue on to the membership page!
